Self Assessment:
I think thats this topic is going okay so far, I have learnt some different types of animation and different ways animation can be used. I also think that my work for the Cornwall School Games was quite good and I enjoyed making it.

Peer Assessment:
Your blog is really smart and well played out. i think our final piece and cornwall school games poster were also very good. You always put lots of effort into your posts. - Lizzie.

Teacher Assessment:
You are progressing very well in this subject, your use of drawn and digital media is very strong and your ideas are always well thought out. Your analysis of existing animations and moving image is strong and will lead to strong influences for your final piece.

Well done - keep up the good work! A*

Animations Evaluation

Animations Evaluation

TV Shows and Movies
Animation is used in many films and programs, I think that most of these are have a target audience of younger children because of their storylines and the way the character looks and act. There are many different styles of animation within these two categories, there are some sic-fi and fantasy an I think this is another thing that makes these shows and films for younger children.
An example of a film that is animated is The Lion King, I think the target audience for this film is also younger children even though a lot of older people may like this as well because it may remind them of their childhood. I also think a lot of people like the message of the story which could be another reason why older people like it although I think that younger children are the main audience for this movie; The Lion King was a hand-drawn animation, I think this is a really good animation. The Lion King was directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff and  was produced by Don Hahn.
An example of a tv shows which is animated is The Simpsons, although this can be aimed at younger children there is also humour in there that normally children wouldn't understand so only adults pick up on it. A lot of different animations also do this so it can be aimed at a larger target audience.

Animation can also used in things like music videos, computer games, advertising and on the internet.
An example of an animation that is used in advertising is the way Kelloggs use animation. Kelloggs use animation in the way they advertising, they have used an animated character to advertise their brand. I think this is really effective because it has brought to live a character that could never really exist in reality and I think this is especially good to attract children to the brand. Advertising can also attract many different people
Animation may be used in music videos to a wider audience to the video and make the video more interesting and different to other things. Animation  could be used in computer games because computer games would be very different and a lot harder to make if actually people were used. Also animation means you don't have to something realistic and something that could me made in real life, with animation is can be anything. Animation is advertising is used to attract and wider range of people and make things happen that aren't really possible which intrigues people to the advert more. Animation is used in mobile phones when adverts come up and in games that can't be real and to make it more interest. On the internet animation is used to make thing more interesting which can make more people want to look at certain things.

There are also different types of animation, there is stop motion, 2d animation, 3d animation, flip book animation and hand-drawn animations, these are just some different types.

Animation within Advertising

Animation within Advertising

Reasons why animation is a powerful marketing tool
  • Practical – With no physical limits, animation can be used to show scenes that a camera cannot shoot.
  • Cost Effective – Animating a car crash is a lot cheaper than physically wrecking two vehicles.
Animation has dramatically moved forward, Warner Bro’s, Walt Disney and Pixar, and others, have made a massive impact in changing the way animation works, they have changed the way people view animation and they way that is it used. Brands such as “Murray Mints” and “Kelloggs” were quick to realise the potential of animation – Kellogg’s saw a great opportunity to bring life to the hand-drawn character’s already used on their cereal boxes.
In 2007, Bupa produced a series of animated TV adverts creating typical scenarios that people may face regarding their health and wellbeing. The main style of the animation was not too different to the “Mr Men” cartoons. This approach created a warm and gentle tone, ultimately leading to an over 25% increase in enquiries year on year.

Reasons why animation is used in advertising:

  • Quick Visual Summery
  • Easily grabs attention
  • Shows things that cannot be photographed
  • Show things that haven't been built yet
  • Position a company as technologically sophisticated

Kelloggs use animation in the way they advertising, they have used an animated character to advertise their brand. I think this is really effective because it has brought to live a character that could never really exist in reality and I think this is especially good to attract children to the brand. Advertising can also attract many different people

This is an another really successful company who used animation in the their advertising. This advert was one of the most successful animation adverts as it attracted everyone at any age. This attracted children as the advert is very cute, teenagers may also find it very sweet, adults could find it quite emotional and it could remind older people of when they were younger. Another thing John Lewis did to make this advert so successful is have animation that is similar to the film Watershed Down, this could have also helped to attract attention to the advert because people remember that film. This advert is that bright or in your face yet it still attracts you to it. Also this advert has a very good storyline although it is quite short there is a full story which people could relate to. Within this advert they used a very good and catchy song to attract people to the advert as well.

This is another successful use of animation within tv advertising. Sky used minions to advert their brand and minions are quite popular already so using them to advert is very clever because it will make people, especially children, want to buy the brand just because they already love minions. Using things that people already know and love to advertise is a very good way to attract people to a brand.

Cornwall School Games

I first made an edit for a poster design for the Cornwall School Games, I used the different colours to represent the different meanings. I then used this to make my first logo, which was then changed to create the final logo idea. I the put this logo onto different sports products, I think my hoodie was best because I feel like this would be main thing people would buy.

To change the colours of the people I used the magic wand tool to elect the areas of the picture that I wanted and then used the colour tool to select the colour I wanted. Then I rearranged all of the people on both the logo and poster to the way I wanted them. For the the poster I the used to text tool to type in the first part of the text and make it the size and font that I wanted. Then to make the word illusion stand out. I found a picture of an illusion on the internet and then made the writing out of it and placed the word where I wanted.

Animation Timeline

Animation is the technique of photographing successive drawings or positions of puppets or models to create an illusion of movement when the film is shown as a sequence.

"a combination of live action with 3-D animation"

Monoprint Edit

I made this by taking a picture of one of my mono prints and putting this into photoshop. I then used the quick selection tool to select the outside, I then chose a colour and used the fill tool to fill it in. Then for the middle banner I did the same think with the quick selection tool and filled in it making sure the cover the writing as well. Then I added the text making it the right size and font that I wanted. Then I had to find an image of a star and dragged this onto my text and made it the right size. Then for the rest of the image I used the paint brush tool to go over all of the drawing I had done before.

Tea Monoprinting

Tea Printing
In this lesson we did some printing to make images about tea, we did this by rolling ink out onto a page making sure there was the right amount of ink. Then we got an a piece a paper and put the paper onto the ink and put an image upside down and copied over the image with paper. Then we took the paper off and the image was printed on the paper.
